When I used to do precision skating I would sometimes see people playing Broomball at the rink. I never got a chance to try it then, but I always thought it looked fun. A meetup group I am a part of was organizing a group game so I signed up for it.
Broomball is like ice hockey, but no skates and it uses a ball and things that look like brooms without bristles instead of hockey sticks. We started out wearing helmets, but quickly learned why helmets have chin straps and gave up on them. Also being on a ice rink is much easier in skates...
Very few people in the group had any idea what they were doing. I think some of them may have played other sports before, but mostly it was a chaotic mass of people swarming the ball. Despite it being exhausting and the falling hurting it was fun. Steven even made a goal. :)
Now that I have tried this once I am happy to never do it again. :) I would like to be wearing skates next time I am on the ice...
